Yaa Asantewaa was a Ghanaian warrior queen, born around 1840, who rose up to lead an army against the invading British. She became Queen Mother, when her grandson, the King, was exiled by the British in 1896.  Yaa Asantewaa lead the one month war against British colonialism, with an army of 5,000 men. This was the last major war lead by an African woman.

The Yaa Asantewaa head wrap is inspired by Ghanian Kente clothe and invokes the strength and fortitude of The Warrior Queen.
